Derek Banks - Executive Chairman

A founder member and Managing Director (now Executive Chairman) of LISS Systems, Derek has spent all his working life, in a career spanning more than forty years, providing IT and Management Services to the Life Assurance Industry and the London Insurance Market from both an underwriting and broker perspective. He has been responsible for the introduction of significant application software packages (e.g. CAPS-I-L and LIFEfit) into the UK and European marketplace. He has held senior management positions within Life Assurance companies, Lloyds Broking firms and Application Software and Consultancy organisations operating in the Insurance market.

Derek plays a key role in the development of LISSIA. He remains closely involved in the analysis, design and specification of major function for each new implementation of the system. He is also actively involved in the management and control of every LISSIA project.

Howard Pyman - Technical Director

A founder member and director of LISS Systems, Howard has been involved both in the management of IT and Operations of end-user companies, and of software development and installation for a variety of national and international insurance based companies. This has included both General and Life, from broking and underwriting perspectives.

Howard and Derek have together provided the vision and insight for the LISSIA system, which embodies their combined experience of the life industry. Most life administration platforms claim to be flexible, open and easy to change, but the design of LISSIA has proven outstanding in its inherent flexibility to support sophisticated products and newer, web-based business models.

Howard remains at the forefront of design and specification of new function, seeing this through into development and delivery. He also manages and oversees the technical direction of all client versions of LISSIA.

Howard has successfully delivered many large development and implementation projects, including those for Ageas in the UK, and Aviva Insurance in India.

David Hanley - Managing Director

David has been with LISS Systems since 2000, a director of the company from 2001 and Managing Director since 2007. He started out in the late 1970s at Guardian Royal Exchange plc (then a top three UK composite insurer) in their Asset Management subsidiary after completing a Masters degree in Economics. He moved into a Group business management role later on where he gained extensive experience of both Life and General insurance business worldwide. After AXA Insurance acquired Guardian he worked as a director on a number of programme management and change management assignments before moving to LISS systems.

David has responsibility for the day-to-day management of LISS Systems and is actively involved across all LISSIA projects and clients. He works closely with the other directors in areas of business development, resourcing and relationships with clients and strategic partners.

Alicja Gorska - Technical Director, Group

Alicja is a founder member and director of LISS Systems, with more than 20-years experience in the insurance market from both an underwriting and broking perspective. She has successfully delivered many major system development and implementation projects.

Alicja has developed a significant addition to the product line with a version of LISSIA dedicated to the administration of Group Employee Benefits packages. This version of LISSIA supports Group Risk and Group Savings. Both Alicja and Derek have collaborated closely on the design of this version, which has been in live production since 2003.

Alicja heads an experienced team that now supports and maintains the Group version, and forms the skill base for further implementations of the system. The most recent of which has been for Generali Pan Europe (GPE) based in Dublin.

Alicja has managed the client relationship with Generali throughout the expansion of its international employee benefits business, providing the systems that have underpinned their growth strategy. Both GW and GPE also form part of the Global Generali EB business, offering a sophisticated range of employee benefit solutions, including group protection, retirement, savings and investment. The Generali Employee Benefits network offers EB programmes in over 50 countries, as well as coordinating multinational pooling and reinsurance programmes on a global basis.

Ajmal Malik - Associate Director

Ajmal joined LISS in 2008 as a Senior Business Analyst and has been instrumental in developing LISS's e solutions platform, eLISSIA. He has a degree in law and over a decade of Financial Services experience, including Natwest, Barclays and moving on to Friends Provident where he has had 7 years experience as a Senior Business Analyst working as part of a team delivering their e commerce solution.

Ajmal joined LISS working on site as part of the LISS team at Munich Re, delivering a web-enabled version of LISSIA as part of a service offering for Munich Re’s Life Assurance clients. Ajmal then moved on to the Brightside project, becoming Head of eBusiness for LISS in 2009, leading another web based implementation of LISSIA, this time providing life products direct to consumer via the web, as a service offering for Brightside’s client, ACE Europe Life.

Using his past experience Ajmal has provided the vision and strategy to allow LISS to develop and offer an e solution and expand the LISSIA core policy administration offering to provide new capabilities such as expert underwriting (uLISSIA) and workflow solutions (LISSIAflow).

Since then Ajmal has managed many successful installations of the eLISSIA platform, including installations for Aviva and Generali. His experience has been key in allowing LISS to enter into the underwriting market and he has recently managed an installation for AdvanceCare, the leading Portuguese underwriting provider.

Peter Barron - Associate Director

Peter joined LISS in 2002, after leaving university where he achieved a first class honours degree in Computer Science.
He was instrumental in the technical design of the LISSIA group version of the system and the implementation in 2003/2004 to Generali.

Offering key technical input into the development of the LISSIA product suite over a number of years, Pete progressed to LISS Technical Architect in 2007 at the initiation of a project for Munich Re.

In 2008 Pete was given the additional responsibility of heading up the onsite LISS project and team at Munich Re.
On his return to LISS in 2009 he led the design, development and implementation of the eLISSIA product suite.

Pete continues to drive the strategic technical design and development of the eLISSIA system.

Iulia Vernis - Associate Director

After graduating in Economics Iulia began her career as an IT Consultant with KPMG in Romania, where she was involved in the startup of Aviva’s Bucharest operation in 2000. Iulia gained a detailed knowledge of LISS’s systems, which she implemented for Aviva, staying on for a number of years as Systems Manager.

Iulia moved to the UK and joined LISS Systems in 2003, where she has been instrumental in several large system implementations, and has operated as Customer Service Manager for a number of key clients. Iulia is currently directing a major system implementation and migration project.

Jason Thackeray - Associate Director

Jason is a highly experienced business analyst, who has worked within the life industry and for a number of prominent Software and IT Service providers, including EDS Solcorp and CapGemini.

As a senior analyst within EDS Solcorp’s product consulting department he worked internationally on projects involving their INGENIUM system, gaining experience in India, Australia, Japan and Taiwan, as well as the UK.

Jason then spent a year at CapGemini before joining LISS Systems.

At LISS, Jason joined the implementation project for Ageas Protect UK, seeing this through to successful launch in July 2008. He is now LISS’s Customer Service Manager for Ageas, working on site at their Reigate headquarters, overseeing the delivery of ongoing support and development.
